At a conference a few years ago, a talked about how important it is to fight the adversary, to do combat with him.

I suppose that on the surface this seems like a good idea, but my heart cried out, “No!”

I wanted to jump from my seat and proclaim what I perceive to be the truth: When you fight the adversary, you become part of his energy. He wins.

What do you do instead of fighting?

Do you just surrender to evil, to “the temptations and the sins which do so easily beset [you]” (2 Nephi 4:18)?

No. You surrender to Jesus Christ.

You turn to the Lord and humble yourself before Him. You let Him become your constant companion by paying attention to His Light and to the Holy Spirit’s amplifying witness.

By awakening to Christ, there is “no more place [in your heart] for the enemy of [your] soul” (2 Nephi 4:28).

We don’t need to fight the adversary. We overcome evil—any evil, all evil—by turning to Christ.

For more details on overcoming evil, read the entirety of Nephi’s Psalm, 2 Nephi 4:16-35.
