If you have a copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition of He Did Deliver Me from Bondage, you may have noticed and wondered about some of the quotes in the margins, cited as Patterns of Light I and Patterns of Light II. That was a teaser hinting at two new books!

Here at Hearthaven Publishing, we are actively working on a project that’s been on the back burner for a long time. We’re pulling the material from the Patterns of Light booklets into two larger, bound books. Patterns of Light I will contain Steps 1–6. Patterns of Light II will contain the long-awaited Steps 7-12.

Okay, but…what is Patterns of Light anyway? They are some of the original scriptures from the Book of Mormon that Colleen Harrison found when she was first investigating the Twelve Steps. She put the Book of Mormon right there beside Alcoholics Anonymous (Big Book) and AA’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, assuming that if the Twelve Steps held truth, she’d find them validated and confirmed in the Book of Mormon.

And guess what? She did! Over and over and over again. Through the years, as Colleen has shared the message of recovery through Christ, people have asked for her original scripture list, and voilá, Patterns of Light: Discovering Patterns of Recovery within the Book of Mormon and Twelve Step Literature was born in the form of five booklets, covering Steps 1 through 6. (Available here while supplies last.)

We don’t have official release dates yet, but Patterns of Light I is almost ready to go to the printer, while Patterns of Light II is about halfway through the writing/polishing process.

And we’re so excited about this news that for the next little while, we’re going to post excerpts from Patterns of Light I here on the blog every Friday. We’ll call it Free Step Friday (#freestepfriday) if you want to share it on social media.

We hope you’ll participate in these excercises. To do so, you’ll need a personal journal, a Book of Mormon, and copies of  Alcoholics Anonymous (4th edition) and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.

We hope you’ll join us on Fridays and share your thoughts on the steps and the materials. See you tomorrow!
